Chi Cha San Chen - Bubble Tea Cup

This artefact is based on the data anaylsis that Chi Cha San Chen is the most popular bubble tea brand. The artefact is an interactive display of the actual Chi Cha San Chen bubble tea cup with pearls bouncing around when the cup is being shaken. The red pearls represent the number of adults who voted for Chi Cha San Chen as their favourite bubble tea brand and the blue pearls represent the number of students who voted for Chi Cha San Chen as their favourite bubble tea brand. The black pearls represent the remaining number of people surveyed who did not vote for Chi Cha San Chen as their favourite bubble tea brand.

Process

The message behind the artefact is that Chi Cha San Chen is the most popular bubble tea brand. Initially, the idea was to fill the brand logo with pearls using the textToPoints() function on p5.js. However, after consulting with my lecturer, a more interactive approach was suggested where the ingredients would shake as well as to make the "bubble tea" visual more apparent as opposed to just displaying circles. Furthermore, it was rather difficult to read the modified chinese words as seen in the experimentations above. With the help of my lecturers, I managed to link the position of the computer mouse to the movement of the pearls. To further emphasize the "tea" aspect, I added tea leaves and varied its rotation to mimic the movement of the shake.
